"Feast or Famine" as cost of living soars

As the cost of living keeps rising the “feast or famine” cycle is even more of a concern for many. You find yourself with a big job that takes up your time and once finished your back to zero income and wondering where the next pay cheque is coming from. This is now being exacerbated as we don’t seem to see an end to the high prices and we have winter on the horizon.

Many freelancers often look for work and think about marketing once the job they are working on has ended. So when do you have time for self promotion? It is one of the first things that falls off the ‘to do list’ when we are busy. However spending time and planning regular marketing, even having someone do it for you, will help to minimise the times of no work and support the search for new.

A good way to spread the word and keep you in the eye of potential customers is to have a plan that shows your expertise, positions you as the ‘go to’ person for your services and that you understand your client’s problems. This supports ongoing sales by raising awareness of your business, delivers leads and helps to keep you in front of current and new customers.

We also know that networking is a big part of the job and although it can save us from times of ‘famine’ it’s important to make the time. Attend as many networking events as possible just make sure that the event is relevant to your field of work. When meeting new people obviously spread the word about your business but don’t forget to seek out those who can help you grow too.

The ‘feast or famine’ cycle drives a lot of entrepreneurs mad but with the right planning and support you can rise above it.
